Show Choir Band Auditions 2025-2026

Wind players should be enrolled in curricular band at JHS. Rhythm section members strongly encouraged to be enrolled in a curricular band, choir or orchestra class at JHS to be considered for the Show Choir Band. 
A tentative calendar of rehearsals is linked for your reference. Please take a look at the schedule and make sure you are available for all performances and the majority of rehearsals.

Audition Materials

Show Band auditions this year will be taking place entirely via video. Audition videos will be sent to outside judges, and scored. Placements will be based on the scores for your auditions. You will be scored on your note accuracy, rhythm accuracy, intonation, and style for this audition. Audition videos are due by 11:59 pm on Friday, May 16, 2025.

The video requirements are:
  • We must be able to see your face, and your instrument! We want to be sure it is you playing, and we want to see your posture/embouchure etc.
  • Please take the audition as one long video. Do not edit the video, and do not submit multiple videos.
  • Once you have recorded, please upload your video to Google Drive or Youtube (as an unlisted).
  • On Google Drive, be sure your sharing permission is set to “anyone with the link can view.” On YouTube, unlisted videos should still work if you send us the link.
  • Paste your link (from Drive or YouTube) into the Google Audition Form.
  • DO NOT worry about needing special recording equipment. A phone or iPad is ideal, but a Chromebook can work in a pinch!

Each auditionee should prepare the following on their instrument:
  • Concert Bb Major Scale - SD All State Band Sheet
  • Concert E Major Scale - SD All State Band Sheet
  • Chromatic Scale - SD All State Band Sheet
  • “In the Middle of the Night” - full piece
    • For extended rests, please pause for a moment, and move on to your next entrance.

If you play an instrument that does not have a part in “In the Middle of the Night,” please reach out to Mrs. Bartz for alternate audition material!
All auditions will be via Submitted Video. They should be submitted by Friday, May 16, 2025 at midnight.
