Choir and Show Choir Audition Information for the 2024-2025 School Year​

All who will be attending JHS in 2024-2025 are welcomed and encouraged to audition for placement in choirs, show choirs, and ensembles! No experience is necessary - we will teach you everything you need to know.  We look forward to working with you and having you in choir next year!

All students who wish to be placed in an auditioned choir or ensemble (Concert Choir, Chorale, Aurora, Cantus, Independence) must complete the VOCAL AUDITION.  Those who wish to be placed in a show choir (Revelry, Legacy) also need to attend the SHOW CHOIR AUDITION day. 

VOCAL JAZZ - DECLARATION (open to 10th-12th grade only) will be a separate, jazz specific audition. Prep will take place during 4th period lunch March 20-27 with an after school audition process on March 27. Sign up will take place in March with details given in current choir classes.
VOCAL AUDITIONS
  • Current Middle School Choir students will audition during choir in late February and/or early March during their choir classes.
  • Current JHS Choir students will audition during choir in March at JHS. 
​Any other students who are not enrolled in a choir currently but wish to audition, may do so by setting up an appointment.

The audition will consist of the following for all singers:
RANGE CHECK
We will do a few warm ups to check your range and determine current voice part. 
VOCAL PERFORMANCE
You will sing your part to Sing Gently (current HS Choir) OR Bonse Aba (8th Graders) a capella.

Current JHS Students auditioning for Concert Choir & Chorale will also have the following components:
SIGHT READING
You will sight read a section of music.
TONAL MEMORY
You will echo back a couple of patterns we play or sing for you.
SHOW CHOIR AUDITIONS
  • Auditions will be held March 23rd from 1-6pm at JHS in the auditorium and choir room.​

​THE CHOREOGRAPHY/PERFORMANCE AUDITION
Choreography to an excerpt of Me and My Gang will be taught on site the day of auditions. Wear comfortable clothes/shoes to dance in. 

Once the dance is learned, you will SING and DANCE together in small groups and be scored for placement into show choirs.
